PS Audio is recognized for its amplifiers, DA converters, and clean power products. While PS Audio has previously focused on floorstanding speakers, the recent release of the Aspen FR5 marks the company’s first foray into monitor speakers. According to the designers, the Aspen FR5 is designed for small and medium-sized rooms.

PS Audio Aspen FR5: two-way monitor speaker

Not so long ago, the American hi-fi manufacturer PS Audio expanded its portfolio with loudspeaker systems. The models FR10 , FR20 and FR30 are floor-standing models and they are joined by the first monitor model called Aspen FR5. With the introduction of the compact two-way Aspen FR5, it should be possible, according to PS Audio, to simulate a concert hall in any small to medium-sized room. The goal of the developers was to create a solution that would give the hi-fi enthusiast the feeling that the loudspeaker “disappears” and that only the magic of the music may be perceived.

The new PS Audio Aspen FR5 is a two-way system, where the tweeter is a 2.5 inch planar magnetic tweeter with a Teonex diaphragm, The woofer can make a long stroke and has a 6.5 inch cone made of polypropylene fibers. On the back is mounted a passive radiator with dimensions of 6 x 9 inches.

Special attention was also paid to the crossover, which is constructed with custom-made film capacitors and high-quality air-core coils. It is designed as a 6th order Linkwitz-Riley filter and the crossover frequency is 1.75 kHz.

The housing of the PS Audio Aspen FR5 measures 36.83 x 20.32 x 33 centimeters (H x W x D) and the manufacturer has made a suitable stand. The Aspen FR5 weighs 12.1 kilograms and that is an indication of the strength and rigidity of the housing. The front plate (baffle) is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic and of course the necessary bulkheads and reinforcements have been placed in the housing. The cover front is easy to attach because it is equipped with magnets.

The frequency range specified by the manufacturer is 35 Hz to 20 kHz. The Aspen FR5 has an impedance of 6 Ohm and a sensitivity of 83 dB. The manufacturer recommends an amplifier with a power of between 50 and 150 Watts.

PS Audio Aspen FR5: price and delivery information
