Luxman D-08u is a direct successor to the well-known top-of-the-line CD/SACD player D-08 and supports playback of not only regular CDs, but also two-channel SACDs. The digital and analog circuits of the new device have undergone a complete upgrade. The developers also added a very useful feature – an asynchronous USB port to use it as an external DAC. Via USB, signal reception is available in both PCM (32 bit/384 kHz) and DSD (5.64 MHz) formats. The model has a fully balanced circuit design. Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by two Burr-Brown PCM 1792A chips, with any digital PCM signal being pre-sampled to 384 kHz using the on-board TI TAS3152 32-bit DSP. The Luxman D-08u player is assembled in Japan.

Luxman D-08u has a special ODNF (Only Distortion Negative Feedback) circuit of the fourth version, in which negative feedback is used “dosed” and for the sole purpose of eliminating distortion in the output stage. This technology is also used in Luxman amplifiers.

Luxman D-08u features a high-precision LxDTM CD/SACD transport, equipped with a special SSB block to suppress vibrations and resonances. The transport tray, located on the left side of the front panel, is covered with a Dust Proof Shutter. The cast aluminum tray uses QLL (Quiet Linear Loader) technology for silent operation. To the right of the tray there is a button to open the disc loading mechanism. Under the tray there is a power supply button with a miniature LED. The right side of the facade is occupied by a FL display with clear informative symbols, the size of which can be “zoomed” using the included remote control. The display has six LED diodes built into it, which indicate the activation of a particular function/operation mode. Below there is a row of buttons designed to enable digital inputs or outputs, reverse the phase of the signal and select one of the two layers of the hybrid disc (CD or SACD). Directly below the display are five playback control keys.

The Luxman D-08u CD player uses a fully balanced circuit topology. The model has on board a 32-bit signal processor TAS3152 (Texas Instruments), which upsamples the PCM signal up to 384 kHz, and a pair of Burr-Brown PCM 1792A chips (Texas Instruments) are used for digital-to-analog conversion. The player received an updated ODNF (Only Distortion Negative Feedback, version 4.0) circuit, borrowed from Luxman amplifiers and using negative feedback to suppress distortion in the output stage. The rear panel of the case includes a regular line output (RCA), as well as a balanced XLR output. There are digital outputs – coaxial and optical. Digital inputs are represented by the following connectors: asynchronous USB, two optical and one coaxial.

The Luxman D-08u delivers sound that impresses with its absolute neutrality, exceptional clarity, clarity, attention to detail, and exceptional expressiveness and musicality. This is a truly talented performer that can also act as an external DAC and play high-resolution digital audio formats.
